|The powerful bond between mother and child captivates us. We are familiar with its depth and tenderness, as celebrated in a 'madonna and child,' but here I am concerned more with its strength and its almost animalistic inevitability.
It seems universally true that the greatest burdens of hardship and abuse are borne by the women and children among us. It is in the grim context of their struggle for survival that the imperative vitality of the bond between mother and child rises into sharpest focus. Even after all else is torn from them, exposing the bones of death itself, that remarkable love remains unquenchable.
